The Need for Dental Care in Centre County Is Real
Centre
County is classified as a “Dental Professional Shortage Area”
for low-income residents by the PA Department of Health. As a result,
the demand for dental care at CVIM is incredibly high – over
1,600 qualified CVIM patients currently are waiting for a dental
appointment! Our ability to meet the dental needs of our residents
solely with volunteer dentists is sorely lacking.
CVIM was fortunate to receive
grant funding from The Highmark Foundation and the PA Department
of Health in 2008. We were able to hire a part-time dentist, a full-time
dental assistant and several part-time dental hygienists to serve
uninsured residents of Centre County. Last year, CVIM helped 970
patients restore their smile and reclaim their self-confidence through
the help of these funding agencies.
Most sources of grant funding,
however, are temporary and dependent upon CVIM’s ability to
demonstrate that the community will help us sustain these crucial
services. Will you join them by providing financial support of CVIM’s
dental program? |
