Dr. Richard M. Madore Dental Clinic

Quality dental care is hard to come by in Centre County, even if you have insurance. Many of Centre Volunteers in Medicine dental patients have not been able to obtain or afford dental care for years, causing poor oral health. At our dental clinic, we care for patients who have no insurance. The dental services we offer include:
Dentist with Patient

  • Emergency Evaluations for those experiencing pain or swelling
  • Tooth Extractions
  • Restorative Dental Care
  • Basic Dental Hygiene Cleanings
  • Specialty & Diagnostic Referrals

CVIM does not provide:

  • Cosmetic Dentistry
  • Dentures (Plans are now in place to serve some of our patients with this service)
  • Bridges or Crowns

Please note that if you have a dental emergency, do not hesitate, call CVIM at (814) 231-4043.

Plans for Bringing Denture Making In-House

Last year, the purchase of a wisdom tooth impact drill and additional supplies required to utilize the drill was made possible by the generosity of the 2018 Battle of the Minds attendees. In the first six (6) months of using the drill, 65 patients received 102 surgical extractions at the CVIM dental clinic. The value of these services if done outside of the clinic is approximately $51,564. In addition, 118 patients received “simple” extractions, thus 193 patients received treatment that they might have otherwise not been able to afford.

Unfortunately, the removal of the infected teeth is not the end for these patients. There can be obvious cosmetic issues, leading to low self-esteem. There can also be a decreased ability in chewing, leading to dietary issues. Moreover, as the remaining teeth begin to shift, the bite is affected, possibly leading to gum problems and additional tooth loss.

The answer is simple: we need to replace the missing teeth. The problem is that tooth replacement is costly. Currently, we refer patients to specialists for this care. However, we have seen over the past few years a reduction in companies willing or able to work with CVIM to treat our patients.

Now that we have the ability to relieve pain and infection, volunteers and staff at CVIM hope to see the job to completion by offering denture making in-house. The goal of the dental clinic personnel is to help seven (7) patients each month, or 84 patients each year. Impressions will be done in the clinic and sent out to a lab for completion. Fittings will then be done in the clinic.

In-house dental care means that CVIM patients, who for many reasons struggle to keep dental appointments, can receive these services by staff and volunteers in a familiar environment.

Richard M. Madore Dental Clinic Campaign

It is a little-known fact that dental disease and poor dental health can cause major complications and illnesses, even death. Early diagnosis, preventative treatment, and early intervention will prevent or halt the progress of most oral diseases.

The Dr. Richard M. Madore Dental Clinic at CVIM honors the spirit and legacy of one individual’s dedication to give back to his community.  If you’d like to donate to us, visit our donations page.

A Thankful Patient’s Story

I cannot begin to express what a blessing CVIM has been for me and my family. We moved to PA from Texas in August of 2018. I never thought we would ever be in a position where my family did not have medical benefits, but I was proven wrong. CVIM has helped to relieve a large amount of stress that comes with no longer having medical coverage. They have allowed my family and me to maintain annual check ups and have helped to provide guidance on what we can do to better our situation. The generosity of those in Centre County has made it possible for us to have yearly dental cleanings, well-woman exams, eye exams, and school physicals.

Before I found CVIM, I didn’t know where I was going to go for our care. The staff and volunteers go out of their way to help. Their warmth and kindness are amazing. I am forever grateful for CVIM’s services. I hope to one day be able to give back for all they have done for me and my family.

Shannon and family!
