Dr. Richard M. Madore Dental Clinic
Quality dental care is hard to come by in Centre County, even if you have insurance. Many of Centre Volunteers in Medicine dental patients have not been able to obtain or afford dental care for years, causing poor oral health.
At our dental clinic, we care for patients who have no insurance. In-house dental care means that CVIM patients, who for many reasons struggle to keep dental appointments, can receive these services by staff and volunteers in a familiar environment.
The dental services we offer include:
- Emergency Evaluations for those experiencing pain or swelling
- Tooth Extractions
- Restorative Dental Care
- Basic Dental Hygiene Cleanings
- Specialty & Diagnostic Referrals
CVIM does not provide:
- Cosmetic Dentistry
- Dentures (Plans are now in place to serve some of our patients with this service)
- Bridges or Crowns
Please note that if you have a dental emergency, do not hesitate, call CVIM at (814) 231-4043.
Plans for Bringing Denture Making In-House
Last year, the purchase of a wisdom tooth impact drill and additional supplies required to utilize the drill was made possible by the generosity of the 2018 Battle of the Minds attendees. In the first six (6) months of using the drill, 65 patients received 102 surgical extractions at the CVIM dental clinic. The value of these services if done outside of the clinic is approximately $51,564. In addition, 118 patients received “simple” extractions, thus 193 patients received treatment that they might have otherwise not been able to afford.
Richard M. Madore Dental Clinic Campaign
It is a little-known fact that dental disease and poor dental health can cause major complications and illnesses, even death. Early diagnosis, preventative treatment, and early intervention will prevent or halt the progress of most oral diseases.
The Dr. Richard M. Madore Dental Clinic at CVIM honors the spirit and legacy of one individual’s dedication to give back to his community. If you’d like to donate to us, visit our donations page.
A Thankful Patient’s Story
I was a 26 year old uninsured man. I worked three jobs, with my typical workweek being between 70 and 90 hours. I was exhausted, but I did what I needed to do to survive. None of my jobs offered a benefits package, and my health was deteriorating.
While facing some serious issues with my teeth, a friend who volunteers to do dental cleanings at CVIM mentioned the service to me.
At first, I was too proud to reach out. I felt like I needed to pull myself up by my bootstraps and do things on my own. My pride got in the way of the help I so desperately needed.
It turns out I had developed a very painful tooth infection. It had become an emergency, and the CVIM dentist was able to get me in and get the tooth extracted immediately, relieving the pain I was in. We scheduled follow up appointments and continued care and maintenance to ensure that I would not have another such emergency.
CVIM is a haven. The staff and volunteers show their care and compassion in action through the gifts bestowed on those of us who need help. I am proud today to say that I was given this opportunity, and I am forever grateful that CVIM continues to provide their unique brand of true outreach. Thank you, CVIM!
